Personally I really like the Glamglow masks but I can see why they divide opinion. The Gravitymud mask which has gone viral on Instagram is the mask Glamglow are most well known for but I wouldn't say it was their mask which gives the best results. Don't get me wrong I love the Gravitymud: I've had it in the original version, the Sonic version and I hope to get my hands on the glitter version. However I wouldn't say that after using it I see a massive difference. Plus Glamglow masks are a lot of money to not receive amazing results. All of the other masks I have tried from Glamglow have really impressed me with a clear improvement to my skin so I really enjoy using them, especially Powermud. Recently Glamglow have decided to branch out even more and they have unveiled two cleansers and a bubble sheet mask. I managed to get my hands on a sample of one of the new cleansers and I was surprised by what I tried.
It isn't very often that I take Instagram up on an offer. Instagram brands scare me. I realise I could be missing out on some incredible indie brands but at the same time I quite like not having my bank details stolen. However there was an offer I couldn't turn down. In my timeline there was an advert for free samples of the new Glamglow Cleansers. The name of the account was Glamglowuk which is their UK account and it was supported by So Post. So Post are the company that manage the samples for the Glamour Beauty Club and even though this has nothing to do with the Glamour Beauty Club that was how I had heard of So Post before. The Glamour Beauty Club is something I have spoken about a lot on this blog. The Glamour Beauty Club is run by Glamour and they send you free samples in exchange for a review, done through email. Personally I always review the products I get on my blog as well but that is my own choice. I completely love this service as it gives me the chance to feel like the beauty editor I want to become. Plus I love trying new products and this is a cheap way of doing that. If you are based in the UK and if you simply like trying new products I would recommend you sign up for the Glamour Beauty Club. Anyway the Glamour Beauty Club is supported by So Post who are a marketing company who help to organise and send out samples. It sort of works like PR would but on a larger scale and with smaller products. So Post do such a great job with the Glamour Beauty Club that I knew I could rely on them for these samples.
When I saw it was a sample through So Post I knew it was legit so I ordered my samples. Very kindly you were given the choice between the two new cleansers Glamglow have literally just launched; the Galacticleanse or the Supercleanse. As they had literally just been released a few days prior, I was yet to read anything about these products so I didn't know much about them. All I could base my decision on was the information I was given at the time. It said Supercleanse suits oily/normal skin and Galacticleanse suits normal/dry skin. I have normal/combination but I know I get oily in my t-zone so I opted for the Supercleanse.
Now that the cleansers have made their way into stores, I have finally been able to read more about them. In hindsight I sort of wish I had picked the Galacticleanse as I am super intrigued by the concept of the product. It is a jelly to milk cleansing balm, I'm not sure why but I really want to know what the texture of this product is like. In comparison the Supercleanse is a cream to foam cleanser, which is unusual in itself but doesn't seem quite as unique.
In addition to the cleanser, So Post also offered a little sample sachet of one of Glamglow's iconic masks for people to try. The Galacticleanse came with a Thristymud sachet which is designed for dry skin. The mask which came with the Supercleanse was the Supermud mask. I actually bought a set for Christmas which had both a Thirstymud sample and a full size Supermud, both of which I have not used. I think adding the little mask sample was a great idea. If you were new to Glamglow you could test the new product and one they are well known for plus essentially you can have the full Glamglow experience.
After placing my order, my samples took about a week and a half to arrive which I didn't think was bad. When it arrived it came in exactly the same packaging as the Glamour Beauty Club samples. It came in a padded envelope and it had a card inside detailing information about the two products. As always I love this experience and I can only assume it is what getting PR feels like. When my samples arrived I decided the best place to start would of course be with the cleanser. I decided that as it was the first time I was trying the Supercleanse, it would be best to try it as my second cleanser. I wasn't sure how it would cope with make up and I thought this would be the best way to see its affect on my skin. I have since used it as my primary cleanser and it was very effective at taking off all of my make up, other than my eye make up but more on that later. I wanted this first use to be more about finding out about the texture of the product rather than seeing if it could take off all of my make up. To use it you put a small amount of product in your hand and add water. Then you rub it together in your hands and make a lather.
It does have the bubble effect but not to the extreme I expected. I think of a lather as a lot of small bubbles but this had quite a closed texture. When it first came out of the tube I wondered how on Earth it was ever going to become a foam. It is a thick product but the description said it was a cream so I had wrongly assumed it would be slightly lighter and more moussey than it actually was. To me this feels thick and dense, more so than any other cleanser I have used. I am guessing that has something to do with the charcoal which is in the product. All of this changes when water is added to it. It goes into a thinner consistency. When you apply this to the face and rub it in a little it does become more of a foam however it does make you look like Detox from Ru Paul's Drag Race in the Season 5 Reunion. That was the thing that confused/surprised me the most is that it is grey and when I say grey, I mean concrete grey. For some reason I had never really seen a cleanser like it. It makes you look ill but that wasn't even the first thing I thought about whilst I used it. My immediate thoughts were consumed by the tingling sensation it gave my face.
The Supercleanse contains Peppermint which gives the cleanser it's scent but provides a tingling sensation on the skin. Not only does it have peppermint but it also contains Eucalyptus leaf which works alongside Charcoal to clarify the skin. Eucalyptus also features in one of my all time favourite cleansers, the Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish. The charcoal within the Supercleanse is what makes it that strange space grey but it is also a known ingredient to help with drawing crap out of your skin. Considering this is only a cleanser, it has the texture and ingredients of a mask. When I applied it I felt like I should have been leaving it on my skin, like you would a mask but instead you just wash it off. Using this as a second cleanse is potentially the only way I would use this cleanser as you are are supposed to avoid the eye area. I do use a separate eye make up remover but I always like the option of using a cleanser when I am travelling. I think this is the biggest let down about the product. How can you create a cleanser that can't be used on your eyes?
On the particular occasion when I first tried Supermud, I used it all over my face. I used an old Real Techniques Foundation Brush to apply a thin layer all over my face but avoiding the eye area. Like Youthmud this also has leaf bits in it which is fine, just be careful not to clog your sink. I was immediately struck by just how quickly this mask dries. By the time I had applied it to my whole face, it had already dried around the outer edge of my face. It dries quick and it dries solid reminding me of the L'Oreal Detox Mask but not quite as extreme. I left this on for around 10 minutes and by the time my countdown had finished, I couldn't move my face without it cracking. You could actually see all of the crap that the mask had drawn out of my skin, it was kind of gross. There was oil patches on my forehead, nose and chin. It was easy to remove the mask and my skin looked great afterwards.
The next day I put make up on and it applied so smoothly and there was a real difference in the texture of my skin. I would say it has a similar effect to the L'Oreal Detox Mask but I think the Glamglow mask is better. If you can afford to spend £42 on the Glamglow mask then it is worth buying but if you wanted a cheaper alternative then look no further than L'Oreal. I have to say for a brand who are known for their masks I was pleasantly surprised by the cleanser. It worked and it didn't leave my skin feeling tight or stripped. Considering I had no expectations of the Cleanser, I had very high expectations of the Supermud mask and luckily for me it did not disappoint. I would have been annoyed if I had tried the sample, having just bought the full size, and in the end I didn't even like it. Everything I have tried from Glamglow I have loved, even the Gravitymud which I do feel is slightly over hyped but I enjoy it none the less. I think it is a smart move from Glamglow to focus on their skincare journey. Now not only can you mask but you can use Glamglow products for your pre-mask skincare as well. My one concern is that it can't be used on your eyes, this automatically lends itself to being used for a second cleanse. I do think I need to test it out some more but from what I have tried of the cleanser I do like it. The mask I would recommend to anyone, I think it did such a good job of clearing out the junk in my skin and it is one of the better Glamglow masks.
Next on my list to try is the new Bubble Sheet Mask Glamglow launched alongside the two cleansers. I thoroughly enjoyed the Sanctuary Bubble Mask I tried last year so surely the Glamglow one can only be even better.
