Dior Addict Extreme in 356 Cherie Bow and 479 Holiday
I just thought I'd show you the box, because the first time I bought a Dior, I was quite surprised by it. haha.
Available: All Dior counters, at $45. This is a new line, but it is permanent.
Volume: 3.5 g
Star Properties: Lasting lipcolor, radiant shine.
Ingredients: Just in case it matters... haha.
Ingredients.
Like all high-end cosmetics, they are all made in Europe and really take 10 days to fly in to Singapore.
Packaging
Alright, I am sure you've seen enough of the packaging from the pictures above, but just to put it in words, it's huge, and I am not a fan of silver and deep blue.
I mention huge because I like to carry the lipcolour I am wearing for the day in my bag, and this is not as travel friendly as a M.A.C or drugstore brands just because it is so angular and massive, as long as the width of my palm.
Also, I used to really like silver until I found out my skin looks better in gold. Neither am I a lover of blue. So yeah, Dior packaging to me is pretty neutral, and doesn't makes me swoon.
Nevertheless, I like the way Dior has this like a vial, and you pull out that cute little knob to get the lipstick tube! It's refreshing when I am used to opening lipstick caps, and turning it up from below all my life, and now I pull the tube up instead of opening caps.
Quick joke here, haha, you know that silver line around the vial? I thought that was the opening when I got my first Dior, and I started pulling the blue case up from there. And I was like, "hey, how do I open this?" I was a bit brokenhearted, and then I fidgeted, and found the knob. Lo and behold, it opens like magic! haha. Okay, just really fascinated back then. And it makes such the most fun sounds when I click it back in, like loading bullets, or keeping top-secret test-tubes back in the lab in Resident Evil. Ooops, my imagination has gone wild.
Colour
Anyway, let's move on. I got my two Addict Extreme in 356 Cherie Bow, and 479 Holiday, as you can see. I was looking for Incognito, but it was out of stock even on the first weekend after launch! So I picked Cherie Bow, that is a similar shade, but more pink, while Incognito is more beige.
So there are my colors. Cherie Bow is a sheer rose nude, that makes it an absolutely beautiful color for people with tanned yellow skin like mine. Rose is the absolute fail-proof lip color for me. And Holiday is the prettiest of pretty sheer Barbie doll pink. It's not bubblegum pink, because bubble gum pink to me is like that in my Etude House LuciDarling. I wouldn't call it a hot pink, because it's not, at least, not my idea of hot pink, though it is very close. It's like oh-my-gosh-pink that everyone has got to have.
Left: Cherie Bow. Right: Holiday.
And they swatch as such:
From left, Cherie Bow once, Cherie Bow 4 times, Holiday 4 times, Holiday once.
Buildability
I like how the Addict Extreme formula can really be built up, as you can see above. It was a surprise for me, because before buying, I knew that this formula may not appear on my lips at all, and be a big disappointment. But it is really builds up, such that I can make it appear on my lips.
Formula
To me, this formula is like a balm formula of lipstick, that's guaranteed to apply sheer, but also guaranteed to be moisturizing. It is probably the high-end version of Revlon lip butters or L'oreal Nutri Shine, both of which I bought but have not yet opened. So I will give a side-by-side comparison when I do open them. And this is definitely Dior's answer to the Rouge Coco Shine!
Most importantly, Dior has won, hands down, over Rouge Coco Shine. I picked up Rouge Coco Shine first, in a red called Monte Carlo, and I loved it. I really did. The Rouge Coco Shine sat in my bag for two weeks until I found Addict Extreme. The thing is, while I was loving Coco Shine, I had major gripes about it making my lips peel like crazy after 2 hours. And I realize, what I really loved was the sheer red, and not the Coco Shine formula.
So let's take a break and see Cherie Bow and Holiday on my lips, before I carry on raving. Hehe.
Holiday on my lips. I had some colors from Naked Palette al over my eyes.
I am sorry for slight peeling on my lips. But this is Holiday, build up 4 layers. Beautiful sweet Barbie pink.
Alright, I am still on formula. I really need to praise Dior for this formula, that is so ultra lightweight, non-sticky, non-oily, to the point, I always forget I am wearing something, and find my lipcolour on my food, and I quickly wipe it off before continuing to eat. Yes, so lightweight even after layers of application.
Also, it absolutely does not have weird smell or weird taste, because with some lipsticks, I pull back my tongue when I accidentally taste bitterness, or I will go crazy when I sniff lead or petrol or something weird.
More pictures first. I still have a lot to say. =P
Cherie Bow on my lips. Maybelline Jelly Glow in Sweet Momo and Silkygirl Blush Single in Flashing Rose layered on top. No eye makeup, except Benefit They're Real Mascra, and I curled my lashes. No powder, just Garnier BB Cream all over my face.
Cherie Bow close up. Love how natural it is.
Oh yes, and it doesn't makes my lips peel. Hooray! Rouge Coco Shine does. I find that if the lip product contains petrolatum or castor oil, it will make my lips peel in 2-3 hours.
Lasting?
No, definitely not. It will stay about 2-3 hours, and it will probably get lost due to mouth movements, drinking, eat... ...
BUT, it stains! Surprising. I am one of those who like my lip colors to stain, because then, my lips will not be unsightly bare after eating. It does not stain hard, or stain much, just a teeny bit such that I find my lips still pink when I use Holiday.
And this explains why I insist on carrying the bulky Dior case out.
Last and most amazing discovery
So basically, I was out. And Dior Summer Croisette Collection was out. So I checked it out.
Having read a post of Dior Addict Extreme in Black Tie by Paris B on My Women Stuff, I just had to check it out to. Black Tie is pretty, but isn't all amazing, until I layered on the gold lipgloss (Dior Ultra Gloss Flash Gold Sunrise) from the Summer Collection, and wow, the SA couldn't stop commenting how nice. She said none of her customers have ever tried it the way I did. And really, wow. This really tempts me to buy Black Tie.
Black Tie on my lips, with gold Dior Addict Ultra Gloss layered in the middle, on top.
I took this picture on the same day as Cherie Bow one. I cleaned my lips at the counter, and put on Black Tie. Too pretty that I didn't want to remove this.
The Lipstick Cut
Basically, I am not a fan of round cut lipsticks, because round cut ones tend to apply sheer. But the Dior Addict has really grown on me, as I learned how to apply using the round top of the lipstick. I prefer teardrop shapes, for the record, because teardrop fits my lips better.
But anyhow, round cut actually applies well enough, and below is the result using Black Tie at the counter. Not perfect, because I didn't lean close to the mirror to check as I would do at home. But I find that while round cuts don't go bear the cupids bow of my lips well enough, they are nicer for my bottom lips.
So yes, here is the close up of Black Tie, with the golden gloss over it.
The SA said that Black Tie makes my skin looks a lot fairer! haha. So all the more reason to check it out if you're medium tanned/darker. Dark lips are beautiful on fair/white people too.
Alright, I think that's all! =D
Love Dior Addict Extreme formula. 4.8/5
Just remember that these don't wear long, so bring it out with you. Otherwise, it is everything I wish for in a lipstick, enough pigmentation, light, beautiful unique colors, easy to apply.
By the way, Black Tie goes on like you see with just one coat! So if you have dark lips and afraid colors wouldn't show, try out the darker colors. It will look wearable as the dark colors sheer out a lot due to the lip balm formula of Addict Extreme.
PS: I am a bit confused about the golden gloss, because it was together with the summer collection at Dior Sephora Ion, and the SA told me they are all limited edition. But I've googled only to find zero mentions of the golden gloss being with the collection, much less about it being limited edition.
But just to give a heads up, if you're interested in Black Tie, do look out for the golden gloss just in case it really is limited edition. Trust me, it's such the most beautiful gold gloss I've seen. I almost didn't get it because I have a MAC one from 2010 Summer. But my MAC one is more strong pigmented orange gold, while Dior's is soft sheer yellow gold. It makes me feel like Chanel Ombres Matelassees 51 Montaigne on my lips. And I understand how people don't like to buy gold gloss because it is almost useless, as it will either be too sheer or too loud since gold is not traditionally an everyday color. I almost skipped it.
Have you tried the Dior Addict Extreme? Which colors do you favor? If not, will you try it out?
